Sitting here with a great cuppa...watching the sunset while it sheds it's glorious array of colours onto a glass mirror image of ocean.... is definitely a picture-postcard shot - we just got back from a very busy day to the mainland...
It has been about four weeks now that we have not gone for supplies... we did try but missed the ferry as Jessica was too busy dressing up for the occassion and so...every evening has been quite a lucky packet to each one cooking as to what they are going to make.. eventually we were down to beans on toast or egg on toast and so.... we needed to go shopping!
Jono had a test so he was staying behind to finish that (by choice) while John, the girls and I headed off on the ferry which has two 200hp motors, to Langasuka!! You get there with your hair truely styled which we love!!
We hired a little car and zipped off to PL SOON where we bought some supplies including our 3kgs of popcorn which you cannot find ANYWHERE else!!!!
Then zipped back an hour later, put the girls on the ferry with all the packets and watched them head back to Rebak while John and I headed for Kuah... we needed a good cuppa while we checked our list of errands.
We got a few things we needed then headed off to buy two regulators for the solar panels which did not work out and so had to order them... now we continue to wait...
We had quite a run around looking for the right wood or stainless to make a frame to re-organise the solar panels as we have bought an extra two panels.... and so it goes. Here in Langkawi things are very slow and very laid back which we love... yet when it comes to work... things change dramatically!!!!
Trying to buy spares or just trying to find where to buy them is like looking for a needle in a haystack! And the frustration levels rise!!!
Yet we drove this little island around in circles looking for the things we needed without any luck and so headed back to the ferry (the last one for the evening) with one hang of a headache and a rather unproductive day.
To have things flown up from anywhere costs almost as much flying there yourself, buying it and flying back... you pay about the same just ordering it!!!
But... that is how it goes.... so the list never gets completed fully except for the important things such as the solar panels, the bilge or grey water pumps....etc, etc, etc.... now these things seem to be made to give you endless issues...yet when we get to a city that will be a thing of the past because you can find and buy what you need!!!
With us ready to head out and do some sailing.... Jono reported the rigging and stantions all in order with no problems or surprises...
Yet.... a little surprise for all you landers...one of the unpublicized truths about the sailing and cruising life is just how much hard work and attention you actually give to your boat....
Now with Bluemoon being relatively new... along with the equipment the list of maintenance and repairs and chores is literally never-ending.Though we don't have half as much as the sailor who has an older boat as his list will be even longer and the funny thing is we have seen some travel to these breath taking places and spend most of their time fixing their boat!!!
Yet.... these trials certainly do try our patience.... like walking 20 kilometers to find some steel!!!!! And even though our cruising life is wonderful, exciting, fun, stimulating and just everything we dreamed of and more..... it is still life which as you all know, life includes challenges and problems...... so to landers who think when we set sail with the idea that wea're leaving all our troubles behind is to blow a bubble that is destined to burst.....
Yet, we continue to see the good in everything especially after a good cuppa... and a few headache pills.... LOL
We will be leaving Rebak on Sunday and heading for Kuah where we will do a good stock up and collect the prop, and spares needed ... then we will start heading off down South...
All are well on board, healthy and happy and in a routine which has made our everyday life rather easier and far more exciting!
We are hoping all you guys are well and that life is treating you well.... some mail would be nice guys....
Love always, John, Jenny, Justine, Jessica andJonathan
